Kerry Klied

Background

Kerry Klied was known for being the first woman to ever hold an AMA Professional Racing License.
Kerry's home town in Rye, New York is where her promising career started.  In 1971, Kerry applied for an AMA Professional Racing License.

Shortly after receiving her licence, it was confiscated while at the races because the AMA rules did not allow women to race professionally.  Kerry sued and a settlement was reached outside the federal district courts in New York.  As the issue was clarified, Kerry once again became the first woman of many women to race professionally against the men to date.
