This was the year to see an up and coming young rider challenge and defeat
the defending champion, Mercedes Gonzalez. With the exception of Great
Britain's Vicky Jackson in the early 80's, Lisa Peterson proved to have
what it took to be a champion. Lisa took the over-all in the 250cc Pro
class and actually tide with Mercedes this year for the Grand National
Championship title.
