The World's Best Female Motocross Racers Competed at the WML International
Motocross Championship in conjunction with the AMA Chevy Trucks Hangtown National.
The WML (Women's Motocross League), presenter of the Women's International
Motocross Championship since 1995, hosted the 2001 WML International
Motocross Championship in conjunction with the Hangtown National in Sacramento, California
on May
18 -20, 2001.
The second stop of the AMA-WML Outdoor Motocross Championship Series held at
Hangtown National had the WML pros race on Sunday, May 20, during halftime
of the AMA Chevy Trucks US Motocross Championship.
The large number of spectators in attendance, including key figures from the
motocross industry, and the substantial media presence, created a unique
opportunity to showcase the progress of women's racing.
Several of the fastest International racers committed to the WML ensuring a
deep and competitive field of racers.
Among the top pro competitors were the current WML Outdoor Motocross Champion
and Loretta Lynn Champion Jessica Patterson, Tallahassee, Florida; Defending WML
International Champion Stefy Bau, Milan, Italy; 2000 Defending German Champion
Steffi Laier, Dieheim, Germany; 2000 British Cup 125cc Champion,
Louise Kennedy, Isle of Mann, England; 2000 British Cup Senior Class Champion,
Elin Mann, Kaerby, Sweden; six-time New Zealand National Champion, Tania Satchwell, Taupo, New
Zealand; Emma Hanna and Anita Doran, top racers from Ireland; and Canadian's
Candace English of Alberta, and Heidi Cooke from Nova Scotia.
The championship was supported by Bel-Ray, Honda, Scott USA,
Alpinestars,Throttle Jockey, AGP, Tag Metals, Pro Action, White Brothers, Vixon
Off road, Split USA, Zumiez.com, Da Kine, Roxy, and TRpro.com.
