Great Britain's 2002 Etnies Girls and Women's British Moto-X Championship
HISTORY
GMOTO-X started in 2001 with the aim of running a series of Moto-X races for
girl racers in the UK. There had
been races in the past, but none had full ACU/FIM recognition – (AUTO CYCLE
UNION that’s the UK’s Governing body for MX sport).
Allison Wylde, GMOTO-X
coordinator, runs RIDE MOTO-X training schools in the
Southeast ‘somehow I got talked into running and promoting the GMOTO-X All
Girl Series – I spoke with sponsors, riders and the media the response has
been overwhelming - here we go!’ The
plan for 2002 is ‘onwards and upwards!’
WHAT IS MOTO-X
It is gritty, hard, it’s on the edge, it’s physically demanding, and
relentless. Girl racers must really push out their boundaries to compete
in this traditionally male dominated sport.
Each success results in a confidence boost, but, failure is ever
present-the slightest mistake can prove decisive in the battle to win.
MOTO-X – the bikes and the
classes
Moto-x bikes are purpose built racing machines, designed to cope with tough off
road terrain. ACU Rules govern the
ages and classes, racers are separated by age and machine size.
Each race consists of 3 ‘motos’; point’s won from each moto and
count towards the eventual final score.
